New Tool for Charities to Stay Exempt
Randall M. Jacobs
The Internal Revenue Service, as much as we may like to disparage it, is a good source for some very helpful information. Recently the IRS created an excellent online training page to help charities maintain 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. Obtaining this special tax status is crucial to the success of many charitable organizations. The IRS' online training is intended to provide tools to help you keep your organization's exempt status intact.
The online training is interesting and interactive, and covers five (5) broad topics. These topics are:
- Tax Exempt Status
- Unrelated Business Income
- Employment Issues
- Form 990
- Required Disclosures
While most people who run charitable organizations will need the help of an attorney and CPA to obtain and maintain 501(c)(3) tax exempt status, this website is an excellent place to get many questions answered that you may otherwise need to ask your lawyer.
